What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the endocrine glands and their secretions called "Hormones". The hormones are special chemicals that can be transported via blood and other body fluids to distant organs and may influence their function. The endocrine system is the body's main system for communicating and coordinating bodily functions. Endocrinologists are physicians who specialize in hormonal and metabolic disorders and treat a variety of disorders such as obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance and disorders of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands.
